Under the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM) Adoption: 13 February 2004; Entry into force: 8 September 2017,

In order to comply with the requirement of the convention, most ships need to install an on-board ballast water treatment system. (BWTS)

Omec involvement is subject to the owner requirements it can cover the full scope in 6 steps

1. Owner to complete the OMEC BWTS questionnaire
2. Site visit to the vessel might include 3D scanning for the proposed area
3. Compare min 3 solutions to be proposed for the owner to select between 3 different BWTSs with the pros and cons of each one (when applicable)
4. Engineering work include 3D modeling for the new selected system
5. Class approval for all new drawings
6. Project management for installation and commissioning in the Dry dock
